Kevin Durant has finally made his long awaited return to the NBA on Tuesday, December 2nd. Kevin Durant missed the first 17 games of the season which has now put the Thunder in danger of missing the playoffs. The Thunder are at this moment the 12th seed and to make the playoffs the team has to be in the top eight of their conference. Durant was supposedly not coming back for about eight weeks and through great doctors he returned during that time frame. He was able to practice last week, but the team had to be careful before letting him make his season debut. Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook was expected to help the team while Durant was healing from his foot injury. Unluckily for the Thunder Westbrook broke his hand just a few games into the season. Westbrook missed 14 games and during that time period the thunder only won four out of their fourteen games.
Luckily for the Thunder Kevin Durant returned to the court and looked like the same Durant we know and love. His first game back was spectacular and he put up big numbers for the game. His stats were as follows: 27 points, 29 minutes, 3 Rebounds, and 2 assists. He put up big numbers in the points category making people think he will win the scoring title which he has done a total of four times. Bleacher Report states that, “Kevin Durant is the 1st player to win 4 scoring titles in a 5-year period since Michael Jordan won 7 straight.” Fortunately Thunder fans will most likely see a bounce back from the Thunder team since the Western Conference is not as strong and challenging as it used to be. Hopefully Durant can turn things around and start leading his team back into the playoff race and maybe even a chance at the championship trophy.
