Yoga

2006
Q: Where do you do yoga?
A: Power Yoga in Santa Monica

Q: How long are the classes?
A: 1-1/2 hours

Q: When are they?
A: 7 days a week. Morning to Late Night.

Q: How are they?
A: Each instructor is different and brings their own level and style of expertise to the class.

Q: Price?
A: It’s a donation based class, but $15 is recommended. Everyone leaves something.

Q: Why is it donation based?
A: So that everyone and anyone can practice yoga.

Q: So is it just a bunch of people sitting around in a hot room, meditating?
A: No! That’s one of the biggest misconceptions about yoga! It’s actually a physical, mental, and spiritual practice. And it’s not held in a hot room. That’s Bikram yoga. At Power Yoga, it’s more warm than hot.

Q: Is it hard?
A: It’s challenging, but not hard. Also, if you’re having trouble with some of the positions, the instructor will show you a variation to make it easier for you.

Q: Will I be judged if I’m bad at yoga?
A: Not at all! In fact, classes are open to all levels, so you have beginners and advanced yogis on the same session.

Q: So it’s not just for girls?
A: No, it’s open to all sexes.

Q: Are you typically the only guy in class?
A: Nope, it’s usually like half and half, with more guys going to the night sessions.

Q: Doesn’t it hurt your back being on the ground?
A: That reminds me, it’s BYOM. (Bring Your Own Mat)

Q: How do you feel afterwards?
A: I feel great! It’s really hard to put into words, but I feel really whole and unstressed. I guess it works like a detox in a way.

Q: Anything else you want to tell me?
A: Yeah, if you’re thinking about doing it, or are slightly curious, I encourage you to just go ahead and try it. I was so skeptical beforehand but it really is an awesome practice. Also, if you’re a guy, don’t be afraid to try it out; yoga isn’t just for girls, it’s for everyone. Oh yea, and bring a towel because this is a workout!
