This past weekend, the 2015 Cheerleading World Championships took over Orlando, Florida. Cheer Worlds is the event level-5 cheerleaders wait for all year. The 3-day competition includes 10 prestigious divisions of teams, in which the top cheer athletes in the world compete for the championship. By Monday evening, the event was all wrapped up and the awards had been given away and cheer-groupies were left in awe from fabulous performances.
Over the weekend, international teams made a statement by shining and, in some cases, outperforming established American teams. Most notably, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand teams stood out and placed within the top ten. Cheer Sport’s team, Great White Sharks, from Cambridge, ON, Canada, placed first in the International Open Level 5 division. One of their stellar performances from the weekend is below.
The not-so-shocking award of the night went to the California Allstars team, Smoed. This is the fourth year in a row that they won first place in the Small Senior Coed 5 division. This team was also the subject of a three year long YouTube reality series, which created a huge hype surrounding the team and its athletes.
Another California based team that reached gold is Cheerforce’s team: Nfinity. After placing 3rd at Worlds in 2014, they came back stronger this year to gain first in the International Open Coed Level 5 division.
Other teams whose performances were to die for include California Allstars Cali Coed, World Cup Shooting Stars, Top Gun Lady Jags, and Cheer Athletics Claw 6. The cheer season may be officially over, but that doesn’t mean these teams haven’t begun preparing for the next season. Until next year, Worlds!
