Star Wars Land: Coming Soon to a Park Near You!

I’m sure many of you have heard the news about Star Wars Land at Disneyland. While I personally have never gotten into the movies (no, I haven’t watched the new movie, sue me), the creation and building of this new land has been very exciting for Disney fans like me. While this might be confusing for some people who don’t frequent the parks as much as others do, I will try my best to include pictures and details about the development.

Here is the current map Disneyland:

The building of Star Wars Land will affect the areas on the left side of the map (Critter Country, Frontierland, Big Thunder Ranch, etc).

In order to accommodate Star Wars Land, Big Thunder Ranch has been closed. Many people were disappointed to hear about the famous Disneyland goats leaving, but they have been given to a caring family, so no worries.

Bye tiny goats! You will be missed.

Here is where Star Wars Land should hypothetically be, from a Google Maps view. I say hypothetically because technically, Disney hasn’t released an official map of where Star Wars Land is supposed to be. This is a general area, but we know that it’s definitely located in the vicinity of that area because Star Wars Land is supposed to be accessible from Critter Country as well as Frontierland.

So how will that work? There’s a giant river in the way, right? The Rivers of America will be rerouted and the Disneyland Railroad will also be reconstructed.

While Disney has not officially stated when Star Wars Land will be open, I’m guessing it will open in one or two years. Many people believe that it will open in 2017, but cast members at the park two weeks ago told my sister that they’re leaning towards a 2018 opening date.

Hopefully, this will mean that Disneyland will host Star Wars Weekends, an event that Walt Disney World in Florida frequently holds, in the future. While you can currently meet select characters from Star Wars in the California park, Anakin Skywalker and other characters only seem to appear in Florida. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you’re interested in learning more details about Star Wars Land, check out this article, which has fantastic photos and updates of the park itself and before/after pictures of where Star Wars Land is going to be. You can see exactly how the river and the trains will be rerouted.

Are you totally pumped for Star Wars Land? I am.
