Firefighters have been working tirelessly to suppress the deadly fires that have been blazing throughout Northern and Southern California for over two weeks.
On Friday, November 16th, New West students, teachers, and parents gave back to the community by raising money for the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, an organization that aims to increase the promptness of the LAFD in responding to crises by funding necessary training programs, equipment, and public outreach. The fundraiser, orchestrated by Ms. Schlee, New West’s 11th Grade Team Leader and Student Government club advisor, raised $1,614.59 for the LA Fire Department Foundation through sales and donations.
Students from Ms. Schlee’s math classes, supervised by parent volunteers, sold protein bars and Diddy Riese cookies in small groups outside LA Fitness, in front of the Chevron gas station, in the Coffee Bean parking lot, in front of Trader Joe’s, and at the Expo/Bundy Light Rail Station.

Students wore red and carried signs with messages in support of the firefighters.
A tenth grader who participated in the sale said, “It was nice to see so many people willing to donate and support our firefighters and community.”
