Recently, my Auntie Catalina turned 100. I sat down with her to ask her some questions about how she reached this milestone, and if she had any advice for others who wish to do the same.
1) What is the secret to your longevity?
I eat oatmeal every day. [laughs] I don’t eat [red] meat, I’m very conscious with what I’m eating. Even if I like the food, I have control.
2) What is the best advice you ever received?
Sleep. I sleep good. I eat good. I pray every day. Thank God I have no physical issues.
3) How did you celebrate your 100th birthday?
My grandchildren gave me a surprise party. I didn’t know about it.
4) Do you have any other advice for people who want to be 100?
Have good sleep. Don’t eat [red] meat; I eat only chicken, vegetables, fruit, and fish. Even if I like the food, I don’t finish it. Like when there’s cake, I just want a teaspoon, that’s it. I have very good control. That’s why my physical [report] is good. Only [my right knee] is weak, and I have arthritis. I am very lucky.
